Read this one beside the other two quotes.

Registered electricians covering West Auckland. Switchboards, rewires, new builds, and the small jobs everyone else is too busy for.

Nobody rings a sparky in a panic about a switchboard. You will think about it for a week and price it against two other people, so this page is written to be checked rather than to be rung — what we take on, what we turn down, and exactly how our number is put together.

Scope

What we take on, and what we turn down

Said here rather than on the phone, so the jobs that are not for us stop ringing and the ones that are get a straight answer the same day. Nobody enjoys being told no after a site visit.

Yes, and gladly

Our actual trade

  • Switchboard and fuse-board upgrades, usually inside a day
  • Full and partial rewires on villas and bungalows, staged so you can stay in the house
  • New builds and renovations wired to plan, on site when we said
  • Lighting, extra outlets, heat pumps, outdoor and security lighting
  • Fault finding, including the ones two other sparkies have already looked at
  • EV chargers and battery-ready switchboards
  • Certificates of compliance and electrical safety certificates

No, and here is who to ring

Better done by somebody else

  • Appliance repair — we will get the power to it, not fix the machine
  • Data cabling and network racks beyond a couple of outlets
  • Alarm monitoring contracts, though we will wire the hardware
  • Solar array design and inverters — we work with two firms who do only that
  • Commercial fit-outs over about six weeks; we are four people and would hold you up
  • Anything needing a scissor lift or a traffic management plan
Certification

The part everybody nods at and nobody explains

Every job we do is signed off by a registered electrician, and you get the paperwork that proves it in the same week — not three months later after you have chased it.

Certificate of Compliance

Issued for prescribed electrical work. It is the document that says the work was done to the standard. Keep it: your insurer and the next buyer of your house will both ask.

Electrical Safety Certificate

Confirms the installation was tested as safe to connect. For most domestic jobs you should end up holding both of these.

Who to check us against

The Electrical Workers Registration Board keeps a public register. Our registration numbers go on the quote, not just the invoice, so you can look us up before you decide rather than after.

The quote

How our number is put together

Three quotes for the same job come back in three shapes, and the cheapest is usually the one with a line missing. So ours is laid out the same way every time, and here it is before you have asked for one.

  1. The fixed part

Labour and materials for the work as described, at a price that does not move. On a switchboard or a staged rewire this is most of the number.

  2. The provisional part

Anything we genuinely cannot see yet — what is inside a wall, what the old wiring turns out to be. Given as a range with the reason next to it, never as a single optimistic figure.

  3. What is excluded

Written down rather than implied. Making good plasterboard, scaffolding, the electrician’s share of a consent, and anything another trade has to do first.

  4. Certification

Included in the price, itemised so you can see it is there. If a quote you are comparing does not mention it, that is worth a phone call to them.

  5. How a variation gets priced

The rate that applies if the job changes, agreed before it changes. You approve the extra in writing or it does not happen.

  6. When you pay

Nothing up front on jobs under about $4,000. Larger work is staged, and the stages are on the quote.

Sample figures and terms for this concept build. On a real site these are the client’s own, written in their own words — and this section is usually the one that wins a job, because it is the only part of a quote a homeowner can actually compare.

Growing

The work that is becoming most of the diary

Two of these were a line in a list five years ago. They are now the reason half our phone calls happen, and they are the jobs people search for by name — so they get a section rather than a bullet point.

EV chargers

Supply and install, with the load check done properly first. A lot of older West Auckland boards will not take a 7kW charger without work, and it is better to know that before the car arrives than after.

Usually a half day, plus the board if it needs it

Battery-ready switchboards

If you are replacing a board anyway, it costs comparatively little to leave room for a battery later. If you are not, we will say so rather than sell you the bigger one.

Specified at quote stage, not upsold on the day

Heat pumps and ventilation

The electrical side, working with the installer. Dedicated circuits, outdoor units and the switchboard capacity to run them in winter without tripping.

We wire it; we do not sell the unit

Old-house fault finding

Villas with sixty years of additions in them. This is slow, hourly work and we say so up front — but it is the thing we are best at, and most of it starts with a call from somebody two sparkies have already given up on.

Charged by the hour, with the rate agreed first

Recent work

Two photographs, when there are two

On a real build these hold the client’s own jobs — a board before and the same board after is the single most persuasive thing an electrician owns. They are empty here because this business does not exist and the work is not ours to show.

What people say

On a live site these pull from the client’s own Google reviews. Skyward has none of its own yet, so none of this is real and none of it is dressed up as though it were.

“Turned up on the dot, had the board swapped over and the power back on before lunch. Explained what he had done in plain English.”
