Marram Hair Kingsland 09 555 0182 Book a chair
Hair, Kingsland · open Tuesday to Saturday

Four chairs. Three of them open.

You have probably already seen the work. What a feed cannot tell you is whether the person who did it will take you, what it will come to, and what happens if you walk out unhappy. All three are on this page, in numbers, before you message anybody.

Who is free

Every chair says whether its book is open, on the same page, including the one that is not.

What it comes to

A price list of totals with the GST already inside them. No “from”, and no price on consultation except once, where we say why.

If it is wrong

Seven days to ring us, the same person fixes it, and nothing more to pay. Written down in section 04.

01 / The chairs

You are booking a person,
not a salon.

So the people come first, and each one says what they take on and what they hand to the chair beside them. If somebody is full we would rather you knew now than after you had written the message.

Nessa

Owner · fourteen years, eleven of them here

Book open

Long hair, lived-in colour, and the sit-down when somebody has decided to change something and is not sure what. Takes the colour corrections, which are the only job in this salon without a price on it.

Hands short and clipper work to Rua, who is better at it and faster, and says so rather than making a worse job of it for the sake of keeping you in her chair.

$85Cut and finish, any length. Colour is priced in section 02.

Rua

Stylist · six years

Book open

Short cuts, fades, clipper work and fringes. The fastest chair in the room, which means Saturday mornings are usually his rather than anybody else's.

A fringe trim between appointments costs nothing and takes ten minutes. Ring rather than message for one — it is easier to slot into a gap than to answer.

$85Cut and finish. $15 for a fringe on its own, no charge between appointments.

Marika

Senior stylist · eleven years

Waitlist · about four weeks

Foils and balayage. Her book runs about four weeks out and we are not going to pretend otherwise to get you to message us and then tell you.

If the date matters more than the chair, Nessa does the same work and has room this month. If Marika is the reason you came, put your name down and we will ring you when something moves.

4 wksWaitlist, by phone. We ring, in the order the names went down.

Tāne

Third-year apprentice · supervised

Closed until March

Off the floor until March, finishing his qualification. His chair is not taking bookings and there is no waitlist for it, which is why it says so here rather than quietly disappearing off the page.

When he is back the apprentice rate comes back with him, and Nessa or Marika is on the floor the whole time he is cutting.

$55The apprentice rate, from March. Not bookable now.
02 / What it costs

Every line is a total.
Not a starting point.

The two things that genuinely change a price are printed as numbers underneath, and you are told at the basin rather than at the till. One job is not priced here at all, and the reason is written into the line.

Cut and finishAny length, any chair except the apprentice one. Includes the wash and the blow-dry — there is no separate finishing charge on this list. $85
I booked a cut expecting it to end up at a hundred and something once the wash and the finish went on. It was eighty-five. Sample text — not a real review. Written by Skyward to show the placement.
Restyle, first appointmentThe longer first booking, with the sit-down at the start. Book two hours rather than one. $105
Root colour and cutOne bowl. If your length needs a second one it is $45 more, and we tell you before it is mixed, not after. $185
Half-head foils and cutAdd $25 past the shoulder blade. Measured at the basin, said out loud, and on the bill as its own line. $245
Full-head foils and cutSame $25 past the shoulder blade. Allow three hours; if you are on a school pick-up, say so when you book and we will start you earlier. $310
Three hours was three hours. Someone told me the actual finish time when I sat down and it was right. Sample text — not a real review. Written by Skyward to show the placement.
Balayage and cutAdd $45 for a second bowl and $25 past the shoulder blade, both told to you before anything is mixed. $325
Blow waveOn its own, no cut. Forty-five minutes. $55
Colour correctionThe one job on this list without a number, and the only honest thing we can do about it. Nessa looks at it first, in the salon, for nothing — then you get the figure and the time in writing before anybody starts. If you would rather not go ahead at that point, you have spent fifteen minutes. Quoted in writing, first
Every figure on this page includes GST.

Nothing is added at the counter. Eftpos and the usual cards; there is no surcharge on either. If a price changes it changes on this page on the same day it changes in the salon, which is the whole reason the list is here rather than in a photograph of a chalkboard.

03 / Before you book

The deposit, and what
happens if you cannot
make it.

This is the only part of a salon that takes money before anything has been done, so it is written down in numbers, once, where you can read it before you book rather than find it in a reminder text the night before.

$40

Held on any appointment over two hours — foils, balayage, a restyle. Taken when you book and it comes off the bill on the day. Nothing is held on a cut.

24 hrs

Move it or cancel it with a day's notice and the deposit follows you to the new time, or comes back, whichever you want. Ring, text, or message — all three count.

Inside a day

We keep the $40. That is a three-hour hole in somebody's Saturday and it does not fill at short notice. Twice, and the next booking is by phone with the full amount up front.

Things happen. If a child is sick or the car will not start, ring and say so — there is a person on the other end of that number and this has never once been applied to somebody who rang.

04 / If you do not like it

Seven days, and the same
person puts it right.

Every salon says come back if you are not happy. Almost none of them says by when, who does it, or what it costs, which is why nobody believes it. Here is the whole policy, and it is the same one for everybody.

  1. Ring within seven days. Do not message.

A phone call gets a time today or tomorrow. A message on a Saturday sits in a queue behind forty others and that is exactly the week you do not want to be waiting through.

  2. The person who did it, fixes it.

Not whoever happens to be free. They booked the time, they know what went on your hair and roughly how it behaved, and they are the one who should be looking at it.

  3. There is nothing more to pay.

Not for the chair, not for the colour, not for the time. If it cannot be put right the way you wanted it, we refund what you paid for the colour and you do not pay for the second appointment either.

What this is not is an open-ended promise about how anything will turn out. We will not tell you what will suit you, what a product does or how long anything lasts — that is a conversation in the chair with the person doing the work, not a line on a website. What we will do is stand behind the appointment for a week.

05 / First time here

The practical bits
nobody puts up.

  • The blue door beside the bakeryWe are not in the arcade. The door is between the bakery and the bike shop and the salon is up one flight; if stairs are a problem ring ahead and we will sort something on the ground floor.
  • Two hours free behind the shopsOff Third Avenue, in past the loading bay. On-street out front is sixty minutes and it is enforced, which catches people out on a three-hour booking.
  • Bring a photographAnything that looks like what you are after, even if it is nothing like your hair. It is a far better start than a description and it takes ten minutes off the first appointment.
  • Tell us about colour in the last yearWhat it was and roughly when, before you sit down rather than halfway through. It changes how long to book, which is the bit that ruins an afternoon if it is wrong.
  • Allow the right amount of timeA cut is an hour. Foils and a cut is closer to three. We will tell you which when you book and we will tell you your actual finish time when you sit down.
Photograph slot — the door from the footpath. Empty on purpose: on a real build this holds the salon's own photographs.
Photograph slot — the room with the lights on.
Photograph slot — recent work, the salon's own, kept short.

Book a chair

Tell us who you want
and roughly when.

We will come back with two or three actual times rather than a question. If the chair you asked for is the four-week one, we will say so in the same message and tell you who else has room.

Faster still: ring 09 555 0182. Between clients somebody picks it up, and a booking takes about ninety seconds on the phone.

On a real build this form emails the salon and texts the phone behind the counter. On this page it does neither — nothing typed into it is sent or stored anywhere, because Marram Hair does not exist.
